Jessica Biel, Justin Timberlake tie the knot in Italy

Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake have made it official.

The couple, who began dating in 2007, tied the knot in Italy on Friday in front of family and friends that included Timbaland and former "Saturday Night Live" star Andy Samberg.

"It's great to be married. The ceremony was beautiful and it was so special to be surrounded by our family and friends," the couple said in a statement to www.people.com.

Timberlake, 31, who starred alongside ex-girlfriend Britney Spears,Christina Aguilera and Ryan Gosling on "The Mickey Mouse Club" in the mid '90s, currently stars in Clint Eastwood's "Trouble with the Curve."

Biel, 30, next stars with Anthony Hopkins in "Hitchcock," due Nov. 23.

Filmmaker Deneen dies

Longtime filmmaker and producer William Deneen, a former Detroiter, died Friday at age 86.

The influential Deneen, who went to University of Detroit High School, was considered one of the most innovative forces in educational films. He accumulated Indiana Jones-type adventures while traveling the globe to remote places as a documentary filmmaker.

Later, he founded the Learning Corporation of America, a division of Columbia Pictures that helped revolutionize academic classroom films. His projects tackled social issues and represented America's diversity and ranged from TV after-school specials to miniseries.

Of Deneen's many Detroit ties, one involves an old U-D friend, Elmore Leonard, who put a character named Deneen in his first novel, 1953's "The Bounty Hunters," as a nod to his pal.

Festival lands Civil Wars

Grammy-winning duo the Civil Wars is set to play the 36th Ann Arbor Folk Festival, the Ark announced Friday.

Set for Jan. 25 and 26 at University of Michigan's Hill Auditorium, the annual fund-raiser for the Ark also will feature Lucinda Williams, City and Colour, Dar Williams and Frontier Ruckus.

Detroit musician Rodriguez, the subject of the documentary "Searching for Sugar Man," is also on the schedule.

Tickets -- $85 and $160 per night, or $150 and $290 for both nights -- go on sale Nov. 30.

Spears case gets under way

Sam Lufti's lawsuit case against Britney Spears got under way in Los Angeles on Thursday, www.people.com reports.

Lufti, 38, who managed the pop star for less than a year beginning in mid-2007, is trying to get 15% of Spears' earnings from that time period, claiming she promised that to him.

During opening arguments, his attorney claimed Spears' erratic behavior during the time she was managed by Lufti -- which included shaving her head, attacking paparazzi with an umbrella and forced psychiatric hospitalizations -- was due to amphetamine abuse.

Lufti also is suing Britney's mother. Lynn, for libel, and he's suing Jamie Spears, Britney's dad, for allegedly punching him in 2008.

1. Reversal in Anna Nicole case

On Thursday, a Los Angeles appellate court reversed a trial judges decision to throw out the conspiracy convictions of Howard K. Stern and psychiatrist Khristine Eroshevich. The two were convicted in 2010 in connection with the prescription drug-related death of Anna Nicole Smith.
