Jessica Biel's 'Emanuel and the Truth About Fishes' Debuts Peculiar Trailer (Video)

The line between reality and fantasy is seemingly blurred in the new film Emanuel and the Truth About Fishes, which released its first trailer Thursday.

Written, directed, and co-produced by Francesca Gregorini (Tanner Hall), the film takes a look at the life of Emanuel, a young woman who has grown up without a mother. Played by Kaya Scodelario (Skins), Emanuel develops a strange fascination with her new neighbor, Linda (Jessica Biel), who closely resembles Emanuel's deceased mother.

In offering to baby-sit Linda's newborn baby, Emanuel finds herself thrown into a fictional world of which she is the gatekeeper.

Scenes between Emanuel and her love interest, Claude (Aneurin Barnard), are shown in the trailer, and an underwater scene with Emanuel and Linda's baby gives viewers a glimpse of the fictional world that Emanuel enters.

Complete with haunting piano music from composer Nathan Larson, the trailer ends with a montage of intense scenes in a hospital, with Biel being carried away, and closes on a shot of Biel and Scodelario laying silently on the ground outside, looking up.

Following its Sundance Film Festival debut, where it was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize, The Hollywood Reporter's Justin Lowe said of the film: "Gregorini's script creates an almost entirely feminine world, where the few men present are more like accessories than central players and the women navigate primarily by emotion and intuition. Well-burnished production values, including the silky cinematography, dimensional lighting and lyrically inspired special effects, contribute significantly to casting the films contemplative spell."

The film also stars Frances O'Connor (Mr. Selfridge) and Alfred Molina (Bless Me, Ultima).

A theatrical release date for Emanuel and the Truth About Fishes has not yet been announced.
